If you live in Ahmedabad and a few small instant loans have turned into a pile of daily recovery calls, you are not alone, and you are not a bad person. Many salaried workers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and nearby areas take a quick ₹5,000 or ₹10,000 from a loan app to cover rent, school fees or a family emergency, and then find the short tenure and high charges make it very hard to repay on time. This guide explains your options for payday loan and loan app debt help in Ahmedabad: how settlement works, what to do about harassment, where to complain in Gujarat, and how to build a plan that stops the cycle.

We have written this in plain language. You do not need to know banking terms to follow it. Read the section that matches your situation first, then come back to the rest.

Why loan app debt grows so fast for Ahmedabad borrowers

Instant loan apps are built for speed. Approval takes minutes and the money lands in your account the same day. The problem is what comes after:

  • Short tenures. Many small loans must be repaid in 7 to 30 days, often on a date that does not match your salary date.

  • High total cost. Processing fees, interest and other charges can make the annual percentage rate (APR) very high, even if the "interest" looks small.

  • Late charges. Once you miss a date, penal charges start adding up.

  • Rollover borrowing. To repay one app, many people borrow from a second app, then a third. Within a few months, five or six apps can be chasing the same person.

Ahmedabad has a large population of young professionals, textile and diamond trade workers, gig workers and small business owners whose income can be irregular. A delayed salary or a slow month in business is often all it takes to start the chain. If this sounds familiar, the cost is not your fault alone, and there is a way out.

First, check whether your lender is legitimate

Before you pay or negotiate anything, find out who actually gave you the loan. Under the Reserve Bank of India's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, every digital loan must be given by a regulated entity such as a bank or an NBFC, and the app must clearly name that lender. The Key Fact Statement (KFS) you received at the time of the loan should show the lender's name, the APR and all charges.

  • Open the loan agreement or KFS in the app or your email and note the lender's name.

  • Check the lender's registration on the RBI website, and check whether the app appears in RBI's public directory of digital lending apps.

  • If you cannot find any regulated lender behind the app, it may be an illegal app. Do not share more personal data with it.

Our detailed guide on how to check if a loan app is RBI approved walks you through each step. The answer changes your strategy: a legitimate lender can be negotiated with in writing, while an illegal app should be reported rather than paid in a panic.

Your rights against loan app harassment in Ahmedabad

RBI rules apply across India, including Gujarat. Regulated lenders and the recovery agents they hire must follow fair practice rules. In simple terms:

  • Recovery calls should not be made before 8 am or after 7 pm.

  • Agents cannot use abusive language, threats, or intimidation of any kind.

  • They cannot shame you publicly or contact people in your phone contacts to embarrass you.

  • The lender must tell you the name of the recovery agent it has engaged.

  • Your personal data must not be misused or shared beyond what you consented to.

If an app is threatening to send morphed photos, messaging your relatives, or calling your workplace, these are serious matters. Save every call log, screenshot and voice note. Threats, defamation and misuse of images can be offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, and you can report them.

Where to complain if you are in Ahmedabad or Gujarat

  • The lender first. Write to the lender's grievance redressal officer, whose details must be shown in the app and on its website. Keep a copy.

  • RBI Ombudsman. If the lender does not reply within 30 days, or you are not satisfied with the reply, you can file a complaint under the RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme at cms.rbi.org.in. RBI has an Ombudsman office in Ahmedabad that covers Gujarat.

  • Cyber crime. For threats, morphed photos or data misuse, call the national cyber crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in. You can also approach the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch or your local police station.

  • Unregistered apps. You can report suspected illegal lending apps on RBI's Sachet portal (sachet.rbi.org.in).

Gujarat Police has also run special drives in recent years against illegal moneylenders who charge extortionate interest and harass borrowers, so local police take these complaints seriously. Our step-by-step guide on how to complain against a loan app in India has the full process.

Settlement or full repayment: which is right for you?

Not everyone needs a settlement. If you can repay the full outstanding within a month or two, paying in full is usually better for your credit record. Settlement is worth discussing when your total dues across all apps are clearly more than you can repay from your income in a reasonable time.

What a loan settlement means

In a settlement, the lender agrees to accept a reduced amount as final payment, usually after the account has been overdue for some time. The lender then closes the account as "settled". This brings relief, but it is important to know the trade-off: a "settled" status is reported to credit bureaus and it will lower your CIBIL score and may affect future loan applications for some time. Full closure shows as "closed", which is better.

There is no guaranteed reduction. Each lender decides based on its own policy, how long the loan has been overdue, and your situation. Anyone who promises you a fixed waiver percentage before seeing your case is not being honest with you.

A simple step-by-step plan

  • List every loan. App name, lender name, amount borrowed, amount now demanded, due date and the agent's number.

  • Work out your real monthly budget. Rent, food, transport, school fees and essentials come first. What is left is what you can actually put towards debt.

  • Stop new borrowing. Borrowing from one app to pay another only grows the total.

  • Prioritise. Regulated lenders with the largest overdue amounts and the worst penal charges usually come first.

  • Negotiate in writing. Ask for a restructuring, an extension or a settlement by email so there is a record.

  • Get the settlement letter before you pay. It should show the lender's name, your loan ID, the agreed amount, the payment date and a statement that the account will be closed on payment.

  • Pay only to the lender's official account. Never pay a recovery agent's personal UPI ID.

  • Collect your No Dues Certificate or closure letter and check your credit report after 30 to 60 days.

An illustrative example

The following is an illustrative example, not a real client story. Imagine Ravi, a 29-year-old sales executive in Naranpura. He took a ₹6,000 loan from one app for a family function. When it fell due before his salary, he borrowed from a second app, then a third. Within four months he had six active loans and was getting calls from early morning. His income could not cover the combined dues.

In a situation like Ravi's, a sensible plan would be to stop all new borrowing, check which lenders are regulated, send written complaints about any calls outside permitted hours or threats, and then approach each regulated lender in writing for either more time or a settlement he can afford, one at a time. He would accept that his credit score will take a hit for a while, in exchange for an end to the cycle and the calls.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Paying whichever agent shouts the loudest, instead of following a plan.

  • Paying money to someone who calls offering a "settlement" without verifying they represent the lender.

  • Ignoring a genuine legal notice. Read it, check who sent it, and respond or seek advice.

  • Uninstalling the app before saving your loan documents and payment history.

  • Sharing your OTPs, UPI PIN or new contact details with unknown callers.

Looking after yourself while you deal with debt

Debt stress is real. Constant calls can affect your sleep, your work and your relationships. Tell one trusted person, a family member or friend, what is happening. You do not have to hide it. Keep your phone on silent for unknown numbers outside working hours, and decide on a fixed time each day to deal with loan matters. If you ever feel overwhelmed or unsafe, please reach out to someone you trust or a mental health helpline. Debt can be solved. You matter more than any loan.

Frequently asked questions

Can loan app agents come to my home in Ahmedabad?

A regulated lender's authorised recovery agent may visit, but only at reasonable hours and with proper identification, and they must behave politely. They cannot threaten you, use force or create a scene to embarrass you in front of neighbours. If an agent behaves this way, note the date, time and name, and complain to the lender and the police.

Will loan settlement affect my CIBIL score?

Yes. A settled account is reported to credit bureaus as "settled", which lowers your score and can make new loans harder to get for some time. Many borrowers still choose settlement because it ends an unpayable cycle. Over time, paying all other bills on time helps your score recover.

What if the loan app is not registered with RBI?

If no regulated bank or NBFC is behind the app, report it on RBI's Sachet portal and to cyber crime through 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, especially if you face threats. Do not panic and pay large sums to unknown accounts. Get advice on your specific case first.

Do I need to visit an office in Bengaluru?

No. Payday Rescue works with Ahmedabad borrowers remotely. You can share your loan details on WhatsApp or by email, and we will explain your options on a call.
